Drag Race Philippines S02E04 Recap: ‘Snatch Game KNB?’

After Tiny Deluxe sashays away in the last episode of Drag Race Philippines, the queens return to the workroom and start a new day. For the mini challenge, they play a game of Tinikling—a traditional Filipino dance performed with bamboo sticks. But the maxi challenge calls for impeccable impersonation in “Snatch Game KNB?”

Matilduh wins the mini challenge again—her third consecutive win in the season—and takes home a cash prize of 20,000 pesos. She lasted 45 seconds dancing the Tinikling, impressing Mama Pao and her fellow queens. Meanwhile, the other queens struggled in the challenge, others even lasting shorter than 20 seconds.

The maxi challenge calls for quick thinking and impersonation skills as the Snatch Game comes early in the season. During the consultation, Mama Pao talks to the queens and asks about their character choices and what they can do to make their characters more believable and realistic. The queens come one by one and reveal their chosen personalities.

However, despite of being one of the most anticipated challenges in every Drag Race franchise, the Season 2 Snatch Game is incomparable to the first season. Overall, it was messy as it did not seem organized. There were also moments when the queens overshadowed each other. Snatch Game did not emulate what the past Snatch Game did.

Category is ‘Uhh-La-Lam Realness’

On the main stage, the queens strut their stuff in Filipino dish-inspired designs. M1ss Jade So walks the runway first, donning an outfit inspired by Puto and Dinuguan—a combination of blood pork stew that Filipinos usually eat with rice cakes.

Meanwhile, Bernie carries an entire grill popular with those wanting to eat freshly grilled meats and other proteins in carinderias or local food stalls. Wearing a silver dress, the Trans Pinay revolution brings out milkfish which she sells in the streets for profit.

Arizona Brandy stays on brand by wearing a Sisig-inspired outfit. Sisig is a popular bar chow for alcohol drinkers as it balances the bitter taste of the drinks with the saltiness, sourness, and oiliness of the dish. Often topped with a fried egg, Sisig is the perfect viand for everyone.

Wearing a structured dress, Dee Dee Marie Holiday elevates mung beans into a sophisticated outfit fit for Drag Race Philippines. Aside from the beans glued on the dress, she also carried a handbag made out of traditional Filipino cookware completing the entire look.

OV Cunt being a stylist and designer brings Uhh-La-Lam Realness to the next level by wearing a dress made out of mussel shells. Still bringing the Halloween aesthetic, she partners the shells with a see-through dress to bring the drama to the Etivac-inspired gown.

Being true to her roots, Hana Beshie designs a Pastil-inspired ensemble. Pastil is a Filipino dish wrapped in banana leaves and often eaten as a meal. It contains shredded meat which became the inspiration for her headdress, and the wrapper as her cape.

Matilduh brings pride to the Philippines’ national fish, the Milkfish, by wearing a mirror-embedded suit. Similar to a mirrorball, Matilduh proves that she is a look queen while strutting the runway.

Veruschka Levels takes inspiration from the oriental aesthetic and brings Chinese spring rolls to the mix in a beautiful haute couture gown. The look is composed of life-sized spring rolls hanging from her body while she dresses like an oriental royalty.

Last but not least, Captivating Katkat combines fashion and camp by wearing a Tapsilog-inspired outfit. Tapsilog is a Filipino dish consisting of braised beef, fried rice, and eggs. As John Santos tells her, she is on “tapa the world.”

Triple Lip Sync for Your Life

M1ss Jade So, Bernie, and Hana Beshie land on the safe spot for the week. Meanwhile, the remaining queens received critiques about their outfits. However, only OV Cunt and Captivating Katkat reigned supreme. Eventually, Captivating Katkat wins the challenge and brings home 80,000, while OV Cunt lives to see another day.

The three queens looked shocked to see themselves at the bottom altogether. They lip-synched to the song Bongga Ka ‘Day by Kim Molina, who happens to be the guest judge for the week. Mama Pao saves Matilduh first, Dee Dee Holiday last, and sends home Veruschka Levels, ending her journey in Drag Race Philippines. Read more about the other Drag Race Philippines episodes today.
